MI Community
Grant Fund
My thanks to both the MI Community Grant Fund and MI Rotary for providing $1,000 each for an art mural project for West Mercer Elementarys multi-purpose room. This mural will be painted by fifth-grade students under the supervision of Mr. Jose Orantes, artist in residence. Mr. Orantes has shared his artistic knowledge of Urban Naive with many other area schools.
This project was made possible by the above contributions as well as the West Mercer PTA. It is truly a community accomplishment to bring Mr. Jose Orantes and his knowledge, expertise and skills to Mercer Island and West Mercer Elementary School.
This permanent art mural, seven-by-20 feet painted by students will illustrate a Biotic and Cultural theme of Mercer Island.
Mr. Orantes will show the students how to draw, transfer, mix paint, work with collage drawings and finalize a large mural for display. By producing this colorful art mural for the community, the students will not forget their contribution for years to come.
Thank you, MI Community Grant Fund and MI Rotary, for making this happen.
