Thank you for reprinting the story from the Tacoma paper regarding ads run by my law firm. I’m glad that you were able to give your readers an inside glimpse into the culture of Olympia. Our elected officials are sworn to uphold the Constitution. It is ironic they are offended when citizens exercise their first amendment rights to print ads in newspapers exhorting their elected officials to do the right thing. But it is worse than ironic that they would use that as an excuse to kill good legislation. What’s more, they threatened to exact retribution by threatening to kill unrelated legislation aimed to protect homebuyers to exact punishment. One legislator was so bold as to state that this is what they were doing, totally clueless as to how arrogant and petty this might sound to the general public. Completely lost in the discussion was any comment or debate on the merits of either bill. Retribution was more important than good public policy. Our citizens deserve better from their elected officials.
