In the very near future, the Mercer Island Historical Society will be installing some new historical markers — one at the old Roanoke car ferry dock site, the South end World War II military installation, and the site of the first Island bridge.

The need is for people who have memories like riding the ferries or recalling the gun emplacement and the wooden bridge that crossed the last channel.

Please come forth and let us know of your memories. It would be super, super helpful to pass on your experiences. Please call Phil Flash at (206) 232-6187 or Sam Lake at (206) 232-2702.
