Important for adults sports teams to carry AED | Letter

10 years ago, Dr. Alan Langman, a resident of Mercer Island, was one of two people who saved my husband's life (Marc Goyette) on the soccer field when he had a heart attack. His cardiologist is Dr. Tim Dewhurst. Marc raised money from his team to buy a team AED to treat any future heart attacks on the field.

His cardiologist is Dr. Tim Dewhurst. Marc raised money from his team to buy a team AED to treat any future heart attacks on the field.

On Sept. 22, Alan, Tim, and Marc were playing soccer in Redmond when Alan collapsed on the field. The first person there was Marc and he called Tim over to help. Marc grabbed his AED from his bag and Tim confirmed that Alan’s heart had stopped. They used the AED to restart his heart and he was unconscious for less than three minutes and sitting up well before the paramedics arrived.

We should let our community know how important it is for adult sports teams to carry an AED and potentially save a teammate from the consequences of a heart attack.
