More about the light at 40th and 86th
I heartily endorse the comments of Ken Lottis about the light at S.E. 40th Street and 86th Avenue S.E. I would, however, like to add an additional complaint.
During peak travel periods on S.E. 40th, the lights are heavily biased for east-westbound traffic. This appears to be around 6-9 a.m. and 3-6 p.m. This bias seems to exist daily, even on Saturday and Sunday, when normal traffic exists on 40th. Therein lies my complaint. This biasing does not allow for heavy traffic on 86th Avenue, both north and south of 40th. Often, traffic backs up on those streets with a red light when there is no traffic within a block of 86th Avenue. Much more attention can be given to a fair and equitable distribution of green lights to allow all traffic to move without long, long waits.
In general, the timing on this light and the definition of lanes on 40th could have been much better thought out.
