Letters to the Editor

Letter | Academics and sports

I was dismayed to read the letter to the editor by Pauline Reiter, criticizing the Reporter’s coverage of the high school sports teams at the expense of the cross country team.

At the beginning of each sports season, it has been the practice of the Reporter to profile two of the high school sports teams each week with a picture of the captains and an article highlighting the goals and expectations of the team.

Last week, the Reporter profiled cross country and boys golf. Had Ms. Reiter taken the time to review the photo and read the article, she would have noted that two of the cross country captains are also National Merit semifinalists!

As a cross country parent the past four years, I am proud to say that the 130-member cross country team is comprised of many gifted athletes and is a model of leadership and academic scholarship. Coaches Erica Hill and Tony Scaringi must be thanked for building this wonderful “family” of athletic scholars.
