Letter | Robbery story follow-up

December 13, 2011 · 10:54 AM

I read the account on the front page of your paper this morning regarding the robbery of the young lady in the vicinity of 44th Street last week. Your coverage indicated the defendant was released without a cash bond. The article did not disclose his name, address or physical description. Why? Those matters are a matter of public record. Moreover, the victim could have given you a physical description of the defendant.

Wouldn’t the community be better served by having this knowledge? There is nothing to prevent the defendant from returning to Mercer Island and repeating his crime.

I have been a homeowner for 25 years on Mercer Island and a subscriber to the MI Reporter. I appreciate the effort you bring to your readers on all things newsworthy on MI each week. I look forward to a follow-up story on the robbery suspect with more detail.

Thank you.

Editor’s note: The Reporter’s policy is not to print suspects names in the paper until they have officially been charged of a crime. The suspect in the robbery on Dec. 2 has not yet been charged.
