Letter | Vote No on School bond - proposal too big
April 10, 2012 · 3:34 PM
During the 33 years we have lived on the island I have supported every school district levy or bond issue, whether for operations, capital or transportation, except one. In the nineties the District sought approval for a very large bond issue to finance capital projects District wide. I, and others, objected to the size and scope of the proposed issue, and questioned the ability of the District to handle the ambitious construction plans called for by the proposal. That school bond was defeated. The District came back with bonds tailored to specific sites and those proposals passed. I have the same concerns with the current proposal. I urge that we turn down the proposed school bond and send this back to the District to divide the proposal into discrete parts and demonstrate that it can handle a series of major constructions.
