Letter | Leap for Green is community effort

What a celebration it was! Kids of all ages gathered at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center on April 21 for the fifth annual Leap for Green Fair, co-hosted by IslandVision and the city of Mercer Island.
This year the theme was “Food.” Everyone learned about sustainable farming practices, saw goats in action and ate fabulous food from MI Farmers Market vendors. Chef Tom was there showing kids how to make a simple healthy lunch … a big hit!
The Lexicon of Sustainability was introduced with beautiful posters, which will engage us all in a new vocabulary. Look for its appearance around the Island in the months ahead.
The Mercer Island Community Fund generously supported all of this. What a great community we have, to have a community-funded group such as this ready and willing to move our collective well-being forward.
Thank you so much to the Community Fund for making this extraordinary day possible for all Mercer Islanders.
