Letter | Recalling World War II in the Aleutian Islands
November 12, 2012 · Updated 1:08 PM
I just happened to be a ‘plank owner’ in VP-43, and we went to the Aleutians immediately after Dutch Harbor was bombed. Capt. Jacobson was PPC of crew 12 as per my list of crews dated June 29, 1942. Nine of the men from the S-27 submarine were brought on to our ship at Chernofski Bay. I was ENS Decker Plane Captain when we ferried them on to Dutch Harbor on June 26, 1942. I only know of a few of us who are still kicking and enjoying life. I am, at 93.
