Letter | Handicap parking inadequate at North QFC

Early in 2012 I contacted the manager of [the QFC] store on Mercer Island and pointed out to him that not only is the population in this community expanding, but there are many older people now and that the handicap spaces are inadequate.

The manager at that time told me that they [were] to begin some remodeling in the summer just past and that he would call this problem to the attention of the planning person. In July, once the remodeling was begun, I reminded him again of the parking problem. The remodeling is finished, and to my surprise the handicap parking, instead of being enlarged, was cut down from four spaces to three.

I call this to your attention for two reasons. The first being that handicap space was cut down in the face of an aging public, and the “good, caring neighbor” image [QFC] wished to project was severely compromised.
