Letter | ‘Patriot Plaza’ not the right name for VFW plan

I read the announcement in the Reporter about plans to create a ‘Patriot Plaza’ at the VFW Hall. I think it is a wonderful idea to have a memorial to veterans, but a terrible idea to call it ‘Patriot Plaza.’ I have belonged to the Southern Poverty Law Center for many years. They track ‘hate’ groups and bring offenders to justice. Many ‘hate’ groups and anti-government groups use the word patriot in their names. So the word has become offensive. I have contacted the post commander at the VFW about my concern, but have not heard back. I will buy a brick in my husband’s name, but only if they change the name of the plaza.
