Dismayed by misrepresentation in letter to voters
Our family recently received a campaign letter addressed to “Women of Mercer Island,” signed by Council members Debbie Bertlin and Tana Senn.
A letter to the editor of the Mercer Island Reporter posted by Kathy Lopus on Sept. 20, 2013, states that Ms. Bertlin and Ms. Senn have misrepresented Kevin Scheid’s extensive and outstanding record, which is accessible for anyone with a modicum of computer literacy. Here is the link that I urge Ms. Bertlin and Ms. Senn to visit: www.kevinscheid.org/about-kevin.html.
Quite frankly, we are dismayed that two of our elected representatives have stooped to this level of misrepresentation. It is one thing for them to be “thrilled to provide support” for their candidate, but quite another matter to deliberately misrepresent the opponent’s outstanding civic record.
In my opinion, Ms. Bertlin and Ms. Senn owe Kevin Scheid and his family an apology. That would be the right thing to do in this case, but perhaps I am too old-fashioned.
Your campaign flyer also omits any information about who paid for the piece, which is a legal requirement.
