Scheid campaign piece is misleading
I was surprised and discouraged to see the flyer from Kevin Scheid in my mail a few days ago attacking Dan Grausz by the use of quotes taken out of context and other distortions and misrepresentations.
I was at the Mercer lsland Rotary lunch, which three of Dan’s quotes in the flyer were taken from. ln all cases, the quotes attributed to Dan were part of a larger, detailed and thoughtful answer that fully expounded the basis for Dan’s position. ln no answer, can the quote attributed to Dan be taken out of that context and be treated as his only, limited answer to the question. That is especially evident in the first question “Why are you running for City Council?” where Dan started his answer with a humorous comment (before explaining in detail all of his reasons)that Kevin want us to believe is the onlv reason Dan is running. Dan’s entire answers on City finances and Town Center development were similarly detailed and thoughtful
Kevin’s deliberate distortion and attack mentality leads to the political dysfunction that Dan has worked so hard and so successfully during his 14 years on the Council to stop.
Finally, as Tea Party conservatives love to do, Mr. Scheid has accused Dan of voting for a myriad of tax increases. l understand that almost all of the so-called “tax hikes” were actually part of utility rates (not taxes) that have to be annually approved by the entire Council, and were supported by the two Council members who have endorsed Kevin and are quoted in the flyer.
Others related to the voter-approved fire station replacement. The fact is that Dan’s fiscal skills have enabled our City to live within its means.
I am sure lslanders will recognize Mr. Scheid’s distortions for what they are and will not be deterred from re-electing Dan who has a record of civic accomplishments, skills, dedication and integrity that are unmatched. He has earned and deserves our votes.
