Gas costs less at Cle Elum
On Friday, Oct. 11, I drove through Cle Elum, Wash., via I-90, where I found regular gas prices, at a Safeway and an independent station across the road, that were much less what we get charged here on Mercer Island.
A big tanker was at one station, unloading fuel into two 5,500 gallon tanks nearby. I asked the friendly driver where he was coming from, and what it cost to drive to Cle Elum and deliver the gas. He knew exactly what it cost: about $700 for the trip including his salary. That works out to be about $0.07 per gallon for 11,000 gallons delivered to Cle Elum.
If any reader does the math, Mercer Islanders are getting gouged by what I understand is “zone pricing.”
Why doesn’t the Reporter ask the Council candidates if they would enact an ordinance requiring compliance with Cle Elum prices and see what happens statewide?
It would be a “fuss” that would be fun to stir up.
