Farmers Market thank you

As our pilot season crosses the mid-way point, the Mercer Island Farmers Market would like to publicly thank our community members who have given generously to bring this event into fruition.

Farmers New World Life Insurance provides the key parking area for customers and most vendors. Rite Aid & Gull Industries is providing parking for the disabled and certain vendors; and Wells Fargo Bank, Mercer Island Professional Building and Covenant Church give overflow parking. The MISD and Committee to Save the Earth are donating storage space and recycling facilities. MIYFS VOICE program is providing volunteers, as are several community service groups. Our neighbors around Mercerdale Park and in the Town Center have welcomed the market.

The Mercer Island Community Fund provided a generous grant for the Web site and coordination, and the city assisted with signage and helped us work through the permit process. The Parks and Recreation Department worked with us to make sure the site logistics were up to health department standards, and the MI Public Safety Department has been available as needed. The MI Reporter has helped publicize our regular community meetings to plan the market and offered coverage of our activity.

This grassroots volunteer-based event is thriving due to much local support, and we are truly grateful. In this, our first season, we are proving to be one of the most vibrant, friendly and successful farmers markets in the county. It takes a supportive community of caring people and dedicated organizations to ensure the market’s sustainability, and this year Mercer Islanders have stepped up in every possible way!
