Student letter: Teen drinking
November 4, 2008 · Updated 2:25 PM
I am writing about the article in last week’s Reporter Police Blotter section that mentioned a teenager who was drinking at the high school football game. I feel strongly that a teenager should not be drinking, especially at a football game.
From my experience in grades K-5 in the D.A.R.E. program, I learned about how terribly alcohol affects minors’ brains and bodies.
I find it sad that this teenager had to go to the hospital after being found intoxicated at the football game. But I also think it was a poor choice for a teenager to drink alcohol after having gone through D.A.R.E. and graduating from the program.
After reading this article, I think it might be necessary for students to go through another program like D.A.R.E. in middle school if this type of thing continues to happen.
I know everyone has to make tough choices. We just need to take more time to think about the consequences of our choices.
Sincerely,
Jack Larkin
