Coach Ed Pepple is irreplaceable
March 31, 2009 · Updated 2:20 PM
It has often been said that no one is irreplaceable. This writer disagrees and thinks that Coach Ed Pepple may just be that “irreplaceable” person. Either way, his replacement will have “Gullivers” shoes to fill.
As a parent of a former player and longtime admirer, I say, “Ed, thanks for the extraordinary memories.”
You have been recognized as the No. 1 high school coach in the United States, “Coach of the Year” in Washington state on more than one occasion, and you carry numerous other accolades for your contribution to high school basketball.
I thank you for your contribution to the youth of Mercer Island, King County, Washington and the country. Your legacy and values are unsurpassed.
You will be missed, Ed. I suggest in this letter that the Mercer Island High School gym be named “Pepple Place.”
Best wishes to you and Shirley for a wonderful retirement.
