Kiwanis Club needs new members

I learned recently that the longtime Kiwanis fireworks stand may be in jeopardy. Why? Old age! Yes, the Mercer Island Kiwanis membership is aging and not being replaced by younger members; therefore, the number of Mercer Island Kiwanis that can “man” the Kiwanis fireworks stand is dwindling.

This year, they used Kiwanis volunteers from other clubs. The intent of this letter is to make Islanders aware that our wonderful July 4 institution may shut down. Perhaps there are non-Kiwanis volunteers who could assist this club — which has done a wonderful job over the years in our community — and contact the MI Kiwanis Club.

At the Summer Celebration! fair yesterday, I stopped by the Kiwanis snow cone booth and, yes, this is a possibility!
