Vote for Larry Phillips
While there are many important elections on your ballot this year, I find one in particular to be key — the primary race for King County executive. Through my years of environmental activism and business activities, I have become familiar with the executive position and how crucial it is to elect an effective leader for our region.
The following are just a few of the many reasons why I am enthusiastically endorsing Larry Phillips for King County executive.
First, Mr. Phillips is very qualified. With two terms as a Washington State House Representative and three years chairing the King County Council, Larry Phillips has the most executive experience of all the candidates.
When I first met Larry over two years ago, he was fighting hard for green vehicles and public transit in King County. Under his guidance, King County contracted with the Green Car Company to produce the first production Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle available for commercial sale. This pilot project for the county led to the Green Car Company setting up a conversion facility that has since produced over 100 PHEVs in Washington state. Larry was the first King County employee to drive a PHEV.
Through knowing Larry, I have had many opportunities to better understand his vision and goals for this county.
He is dedicated to sustainable light rail transit, one of my true passions. He even sits on the Sound Transit board. During his 17 years on the King County Council, Larry has been the driving force that has gotten the South link installed and operational, both on time and under budget. With Larry at the county helm, we can be assured that the North and East link will become long overdue realities. Larry is the strongest candidate for the environment.
Larry plans on launching many new strategies to increase employment and maintain economic growth within King County, despite the current national recession. Developing our green economy, updating our infrastructure, generating local energy, and creating new family-wage jobs are high on his to-do list.
As chair of the King County Council Budget Committee, Larry cut over $200 million to balance the budget, while prioritizing key services like public health and safety.
I urge you to vote for Larry Phillips for King County executive; he is the most qualified and motivated candidate.
