I want to thank the School Board for opening its special meeting last Wednesday (Sept. 2) to the public. This meeting, which dealt with loan terms regarding the PEAK project, was important in ensuring that the School District (and thus Mercer Island citizens) are fully protected. I think it’s important for the citizens to know about the financial issues, whatever they are, facing the district, and I appreciate that they often have tough decisions to make. The board showed itself to be acting responsibly in our best interests. Frankly, I think such openness is, in the end, to the benefit of both the board and the public.
