Harry Leavitt is retiring after many years of managing the Mercer Island Recycle Center.

He deserves our thanks for his many years of keeping this most valuable community asset functioning to the great benefit of us all.

Due to the drop in revenue from scrap prices, the center has had to reduce its operating days to Friday, Saturday and Monday. (On Sunday, it is currently closed due to the Farmers Market.)

Friday or Saturday are the best days — Monday is a filled-up facility — showing how vital the MIRC is to all Islanders.
