I write in response to “Keep Dogs Leashed,” which was published last week.

The writer failed to mention that feral cats are fed daily at the Recycle Center in Mercerdale Park. Raccoons, rats, dogs and other animals have been observed visiting the Recycle Center to eat cat food.

Feral cats are unhealthy and are a risk to persons and other animals. Feral cats carry disease. They are also a threat to wildlife and have been known to decimate entire bird populations. It is illegal for the cats to be there.

I suggest that the appropriate Mercer Island city employee notify animal control so that traps may be set, the cats caught and removed. This would make the Recycle Center a healthier and safer place for all.
