Congratulations to the Mercer Island Parks Department and Youth Theatre Northwest on a magical collaboration, “Alone in the Dark: Mercer Island’s Haunted Forest.”

For two weekends in October, Island Crest Park was transformed into an eerie haven for lost souls and those trying to rescue them. The young actors of YTN are to be commended for their fine theater skills in a dark and sometimes wet environment, using the paths, trails, bridges and nooks of the park as their stage and weaving their stories with dialogue, song and surprise.

I hope this will become an autumn tradition. It’s a wonderful example of the innovative partnership that is possible between our community and one of our most precious Island treasures, Youth Theatre Northwest.
