There’s a new gem in Mercer Island’s commercial district: the Arts Gallery on 78th Avenue S.E., formed under its umbrella organization, the Mercer Island Visual Arts League (MIVAL). The gallery is located on the ground floor of the Avellino building, abutting the south end of the QFC parking lot. The MIVAL Arts Gallery displays works by Mercer Island artists both well known and newcomers. While providing local artists with opportunities to show their work and/or experience the business part of their art, the gallery also serves to bring the Mercer Island community closer together through its display of local talent.

Most impressive is that the MIVAL Arts Gallery plans to re-invest any profits back into the Mercer Island arts community. The excess funds will be contributed to high school scholarships or grants.

As our commercial center continues to grow exponentially, it is up to us to preserve Mercer Island’s warmth and small-town feel by supporting community-building businesses such as the MIVAL Gallery.
