Seldom does a voter have the opportunity we on Mercer Island have for the Feb. 9 election to vote to support four educational choices: the three school funding levies and the King County Library Proposition 1. We are all aware that our MISD needs the three school levies for basic education for the K-12 programs. But we also have another tax-supported educational institution, our King County Library, which informs and educates all of us, preschool as well as adults. Ask the reference desk a question and you will get an answer. Order a book and it will arrive, even from a remote site. Are you interested in children's programs, historic films or informative lectures? Go there. And most significantly, the system is an independent public library which is open seven days a week.
