Questionable sponsorship

Why is the Mercer Island Arts Council sponsoring a book promotion by right-wing commentator Michael Medved? Mr. Medved’s latest tome, “Five Big Lies About American Business,” has nothing whatsoever to do with art, and as a highly visible public figure with a national radio show, he does not lack venues.

Yet the taxpayer-funded Arts Council has sponsored Mr. Medved to speak at Aljoya on Feb. 13 in a Meet the Author Night.

I can only conclude that: (1) The Arts Council is very confused about what constitutes art; and (2) Mr. Medved is OK with some government subsidies.
