All of us who enjoyed the marching band in the Summer Celebration! parade can give three cheers and a sincere thank you to Bert Pound. As he put it a couple of months ago, “What’s a parade without a band?” Bert recruited the musicians, arranged for them to borrow instruments if needed, provided the music, arranged for a Mercer Island bank to donate T-shirts for the band to wear in the parade, secured a space for a pre-concert rehearsal, found a place as needed for band members to leave their instruments after the parade and covered all the other logistics and planning tasks involved. This was a one-man committee. The age range in the band was 10 to 93, and Bert is the one who’s 93! He still can’t resist the siren call of a marching band. Thanks again, Bert.
