I have recently become aware of a memorial project in memory of Steve Haba that is proposed for Luther Burbank Park. The plan is to place it at the extreme north end of LBP on a pristine, grassy meadow. The memorial is to be a large 20-by-40-foot, almond-shaped cement pad. A facility of this nature does not comply with the existing park policy and Luther Burbank Park Master Plan. The plan states that single benches and trees only can be added to the park. Therefore, such a facility would detract from the existing green characteristics of the park. As such, it is highly desired that such a proposed memorial not be recommended.
