Reporter seeks to fill position on editorial board | Editor’s Note

The Mercer Island Reporter is seeking to fill a position on its Editorial Board that was vacated by Salim Nice after he recently announced his candidacy for a seat on the Mercer Island City Council.

“I am proud of the work the board accomplished in the past 18 months, and am so very grateful we have a community newspaper willing to invest the resources to this worthwhile effort,” Nice wrote in an email to the Reporter. “I valued the contributions of each board member, and learned a great deal as we discussed, and came to consensus on each issue. Most importantly, I feel we provided meaningful insight to the public on important, complex and oftentimes polarizing issues faced by our community.”

Islanders who are interested in discussing Mercer Island topics and endorsing campaigns are invited to apply to join the board. We seek a board member who will best provide balance to our current board, which consists of me and publisher William Shaw, and Islanders Leslie Meagley, Gary Robinson, Lisa Casterella and Denise Hopkins. The new board member will serve on this volunteer board for two years.

If you are interested, please email editor@mi-reporter.com, and include a brief bio and why you would like to join.

The Reporter reestablished its editorial board in February 2016 to weigh Island issues and provide our readers with more information to help you make the most informed decisions. The board looks forward to interviewing candidates starting next month for the upcoming primary election in August.
