MI cheerleaders earn trophies | Sports briefs

Several members of the Mercer Island JV cheerleading team went to a UCA Cheer Camp in Tacoma at the end of July, where the team earned four trophies.
As a team, the Islanders earned first in cheer, first in dance and stunt routine, home pom routine and top honors for team members in top jump award with Lauren Emick taking first, Megan Ingram earning second and Emily Lightfoot taking third. Ethan Roulliard and Ingram were all also named All-Americans of the camp.
The team earned a superior award for chants and game day scenarios, and a spirit stick for showing outstanding spirit throughout the camp.
Cheer coach Hayley Quinn said the week was a training camp to prepare for the school year.
The team includes: captains Lauren Emick, Phoebe Vollers, Mary Butowicz and team members Paige Brandon, Megan Ingram, Emily Lightfoot, Julia MacDiarmid, Julia Glick, Ethan Roulliard, Lindsay White, Alex Chapman, Anne Kaye-Jewett, Talia Schatzman, Lindsey Jacoby and Emma Young.
