Mercer Island beats Sammamish 38-9

Mercer Island picked up their second conference win this season beating Sammamish Friday night 38-9 at the Totems home field.

Sean Smith returned a fumble for a touchdown for the Totems early in the first quarter, giving Sammamish a 6-0 lead after the kick failed.

Mercer Island retook the lead off a Jeff Lindquist 5-yard run touchdown. The team went for the extra two, scoring off a pass from Alexander Rorem to Eric Stefanchik to make it an 8-6 game.

Sammamish's Chris Lider ended scoring in the first quarter with a 23-yard field goal, scoring the Totems last points of the night.

In the second quarter Stefanchik scored again off a 34-yard pass from Lindquist, followed by a solid kick from Alex Wood.

At the half the Islanders led 15-9.

In the third quarter Lindquist made two touchdown runs, the first a 4-yard gain for the points, with the attempt at the extra two failing, following by a 20-yard run with a good kick from Wood for a 13 point quarter.

In the last 12 minutes of the game the Islanders found another touchdown scoring opportunity when Stefanchik connected with Lindquist for a 34-yard pass. Wood made another good kick, followed by a 27-yard field goal for the final score of 38-9.

The Islanders will host Lake Washington Friday, Oct. 29 in the final game of the regular season.
