The Eastside FC boys 16U red team, which includes Mercer Island residents Sam Miller and Jordan Morris, was named the champion of the U.S. Youth Soccer Association Far West Regional League after league play earlier this month.

The title means that the team is ranked in the top 10 in the country and is qualified to compete for the regional championship in Boise, Idaho, next June.

It is the first time that a team from Washington has ever won the Far West Regional League title. The team completed league play this fall as the champions of the Washington State Youth Soccer Association's regional club league with a 12-0-2 record.
