After a 65-62 win over Cleveland, the Mercer Island girls basketball team is preparing for Thursday's district semifinals. The team will face Seattle Prep at Bellevue College at 4:45 p.m.
The Islanders, despite being down early in the game, returned from the half to close gap to just one point at the end of the third quarter. Scoring 26 points in the fourth quarter, the Islanders defense held Cleveland to 22 points to secure the win.
Hailey Gullstad put up 25 points for the Islanders, while Kris Brackmann had 21 and Jae Shin added 15, followed by four from Savanna Reid.
The Islanders are now guaranteed a spot at the state tournament. A win over Seattle Prep moves the Islanders into the district championship game on Saturday, while a loss would put the team into the third/fourth place game, also on Saturday.
