The Mercer Island Parks and Recreation department has moved closer to its donation goal this spring. As discussed during Monday’s City Council meeting, the department needs $28,453 to save special events, labor to help run the events and fund part of the Arts and Special Events Coordinator position.
So far the fundraising campaign has netted $16,000 toward the goal, meaning most of the special events planned for this summer will go on as scheduled. Some may be pared down to fit the smaller budget, but will still happen.
Funds have been donated from the Mercer Island Rotary Club, Mercer Island Women’s Club, Friends of Luther Burbank Park, Cascade Kendo Kai, Mercer Island Preschool Association, Mercer Island Community Fund and private donations.
Fundraising will continue through the year to help offset costs of 2012 special events.
