Swim Across America is returning this weekend to swim Lake Washington, benefiting Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.
The event, to be held on Sept. 10, raises money for Seattle Cancer Care Alliance through a fundraiser swim in Lake Washington.
The organization helps raise money for cancer research, prevention and treatment through swimming-related events, and has won the support of many former Olympic athletes.
The Mercer Island event will begin at 8 a.m. at Mercerwood Shore Club for the two-mile swim, while the half-mile swim will take place at Luther Burbank Park beginning at 8:30 a.m. All events will end at the park’s beach.
There is also a Kid’s Splash 50-meter freestyle swim at the park for kids 11 years and under.
Participants and volunteers are invited to attend a post-swim celebration and awards ceremony at the park. Olympic medalists Mary Wayte, Jeff Float, Emily Silver and Janel Jorgenson will be at the end.
Swimmers interested can register and learn more online at www.swimacrossamerica.org/seattle. Each adult swimmer can register for $300, which is applied to the minimum fundraising requirement of $300.
Volunteers can also contact co-director David Day directly to get involved, at david@swimacrossamerica.org or by calling (206) 276-9426.
