The Mercer Island girls basketball program will be holding three open gyms in the next several weeks so that players can prep for the select team tryouts.

On Sept. 7, Sept. 13 and Sept. 15, students can tryout at the North Mercer gym. Fourth through sixth graders can attend the 5 to 6 p.m. open gym, while seventh and eighth graders are welcome from 6 to 7 p.m. Jasen Basket, the new MIGB coaching coordinator and owner of Emerald City Basketball Academy, will be running the tune-up sessions.

The select team tryouts will be held at the Mercer Island High School gym on Sept. 17 from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. and Sept. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Teams will be chosen for the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade teams. It is possible, like in years past, that there will be two fifth grade teams, depending on numbers. Team play in the Puget Sound Travel League and in AAU tournament. The season runs from Nov. 1 through the beginning of March.
