Two MIHS Varsity Cheerleaders, Madison Roodman and Lauren Emick, have been selected to perform in the 85th annual Macy’s Thankgiving Day Parade in New York City on Nov. 24.
Last summer, the Universal Cheer Association invited MIHS varsity cheerleaders to apply for spots on the varsity spirit squad, whose appearance in the Macy’s Parade is coordinated by Spirit of America Productions.
Roodman and Emick are among 700 cheerleaders and dancers from around the country who were named to the squad.
“Meeting other cheerleaders from all over the U.S. and participating in the parade will be an amazing experience,” says Emick. “I am proud to be representing Mercer Island High School.”
The girls will visit the Empire State Building, see a Broadway show, tour the city and get a chance to meet the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes. The highlight will, of course, be the opportunity to march in the nation’s premier Thanksgiving Day parade, which is televised live to some 50 million viewers.
“Cheering in the parade will be the experience of a lifetime and I couldn’t be more excited about it,” says Roodman.
