The Mercer Island girls did something the boys could not this week, beat Sammamish. The Islanders earned their first KingCo league win on Wednesday, beating the Totems 48-26.

Mercer Island commanded the lead throughout the game after a close first quarter. The first ended with a 12-11 lead for Mercer Island, but it was extended in the second with the half time score 22-20.  The teams came back after the break and the Islanders never looked back, adding 12 points in the third and 14 in the fourth, while holding Sammamish to just six in the same time frame.

Kris Brackmann had 16 points for the Islanders, while Julia Bluemenstein had 11 overall. Renae Tessem added seven, Suri Johnson four, Marlo Cafarelli had three, as did senior Lauren Ellis. Carly Andersen and Jamie Mounger both had two points.

The girls will travel to Bellevue on Friday night. The game will be broadcast live on Hot Jamz radio at 94.5 FM or online at hotjamz.org.
