Mercer Island Little League softball events coming soon | Sports brief

The Mercer Island Little League softball teams will soon be gearing up for the spring season, with activities beginning in January.

The Player Development Program will begin on Jan. 7 and run through March 3. Taught by Rijo Athletics coach Nalani Akana will held players shake off the winter rust and learn new skills. The program will be held at the Mercer Island Boys & Girls Club for eight Saturdays. Sessions run from 3 to 4 p.m. for ages 8 through 11 and 4 to 5 p.m. for ages 12 through 18. Registration can be done at mi.positiveplace.org.

The league will host an open house on Sunday, Jan. 8 from 4 to 6 p.m. at PEAK. Players and their families can learn about the MI Little League teams, while the kids enjoy activities, hot dogs and prize.

Registration for the season is currently open. The league's softball division range from ages 6 through 14. Teams are formed based on ages and skill level. Registration can be completed on the Mercer Island Boys & Girls website.
