Mercer Island girls fall to Liberty | Prep basketball results

In their final league game of 2011, the Mercer Island girls fell to KingCo league leader Liberty on Thursday, Dec. 15. The Patriots won 45-41.
Mercer Island held the lead at the end of the first quarter with an 11-4 score, but Liberty held things back in the second, with both teams earning eight points to even things out. After the break the Islanders again dominated on the boards with 11 points to Liberty’s six. But a huge fourth quarter for the Patriots amassing 27 points in the final minute while holding Mercer Island to 11.
Kristen Brackmann had 15 points during the loss, while Savanna Reid earned 14 points for the team. Marlo Cafarelli added eight and both Lauren Ellis and Suri Johnson had two points.
The weekend before the team lost to Newberg, a team from Oregon, 41-35.
The team also traveled to Prairie on Monday, Dec. 19 where the Islanders lost 75-34.
Prairie held a solid 23-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Mercer Island earned 11 points in the second. But Prairie continued to dominate with 15 points in the thid and 23 in the fourth, while the Islanders had 19 points in the second half.
Reid had the team high with 13 points, while Brackmann had nine. Carly Andersen and Brooke Behrbaum added three. Cafarelli, Jamie Mounger and Renae Tessem each added two.
