Interlake barely survived a conference match with the Mercer Island Islanders on Wednesday, Jan. 4, but held on to earn the win. The final score was 56-52 for the Saints.

The night started with Interlake leading at the end of the first quarter with a 14-12 score. Mercer Island took control in the second quarter, posting 19 points to Interlake’s 17 for a tied game at halftime with 31 points.

In the third quarter Interlake retook the lead while holding Mercer Island to just five points. Unwilling to give up, the Islanders put up 16 points in the final minutes, but it wouldn’t be enough to surpass Interlake.

Kristen Brackmann had 12 points in the game, while Ari Moscatel and Savanna Reid each had eight points. Carly Anderson had five points, Julia Blumstein, Marlo Cafarelli and Renae Tessem all had four points. Suri Johnson added three points and Brooke Behrbaum and Lauren Ellis each had two points.

The Islanders will take on league leaders Juanita on Friday night. The game will be at Juanita beginning at 6:30 p.m.
