Mercer Island stays alive, battles for No. 5 spot | Playoff update

For the fifth time this season, the Mercer Island boys basketball team stepped onto the court to play Bellevue Friday night. This time the Islanders won, beating Bellevue 65-50.

The Islanders will play on Saturday, Feb. 18 against Franklin at Bellevue College at 3 p.m. for the No. 5 and final spot to the state tournament out of districts. With a win the Islanders would play on Friday, Feb. 25 against the No. 1 team from District 3/4 at Rogers High School.

Against Bellevue, the Islanders were up 22-15 at the end of the first quarter. The score at halftime was 29-25 for the Islanders.

The second half started with a face pace, but the Islanders controlled the ball, holding the lead 45-34 at the end of the third quarter.

Another strong quarter for the Islanders completed the game, ending Bellevue's season.
