Opening day for Mercer Island Little Leagues, Saturday, April 21

Opening day for the Mercer Island baseball and softball Little League teams is this Saturday, April 21.

The event will be held at the South Mercer Playfields and begins at 11 a.m., rain or shine.

Bill Krueger, a former Major League Baseball pitcher, will be the guest speaker this year. This year’s event features a raffle, T-shirts, sweatshirts and other baseball and softball items for sale. A $5 barbecue lunch, with a hot dog, chips and beverage will be available.

The Mercer Island High School baseball and softball teams will be on hand to greet the 71 Mercer Island Little League teams, as well as Mercer Island Color Guard VFW #5760.

Kurt Dammeier will serve as the event’s emcee.
