Several Mercer Island students, who row with the Mount Baker Crew teams, helped earn big wins during the Brentwood Regatta in Canada.

The teams competed in Mill Bay, in British Columbia, against top teams from the Northwest, as well as Canada.

The women's lightweight 8+ took first place, beating Holy Names Academy in the final 250 meters of the 1,500 meter race. The lightweight boat is led by Abby Elggren, a junior at Mercer Island High School. Nola Peshikin, a freshman at MIHS, is also a member of the team.

In the men's events, the men's varsity 8+ also took first, beating Everett Rowing Association by a boat length. The men's team earned a spot to race in this weekend's Opening Day Regatta on Montlake Cut.

The varsity 8's include MIHS students Alex Ihle and Charlie Gardner, both juniors.

The women's varsity 8+ took sixth place during the Regatta. The team includes Mercer Island students Nina Lepp, a senior, Riley MacAulay, a sophomore and freshman Anika Christofferson.

The women's varsity 8+ will also compete in the 2012 Opening Day races this weekend.
