Mercer Island wins KingCo title, prepares for state | Prep boys soccer

The Mercer Island boys soccer team took possession of the KingCo title last Friday night. The team won the regular season title after tying with Mount Si 1-1 in overtime, during the final game of the regular season.
As the top finisher in league, the Islanders earned the No. 1 seed from District 2 going into the state tournament, which will begin on May 16.
Against the Wildcats, Kody Clearman scored the first goal of the night in the 18th minute, before Alex Wood, assisted by Jamie Lungmus scored in the 29th minute to tie the match.
The teams battled it out through overtime, ended with the tie.
The 3A state tournament will begin on May 16, when Mercer Island takes on the No. 5 seed team from District 3/4.
Five members of the Mercer Island team were named to the All KingCo first team. Nico Terentjev, Josh Lee, Alberto Perez, Alex Wood and Jordan Morris earned the honor, while Morris was also named most valuable player this season. Second team honor went to: Sam Miller and Jeremy Chow, while Nate Umlauf, Johan Vanderveen, Jake Michael and Jamie Lungmus earned honorable mentions.
