Mercer Island resident and Lakeside student Shea Wojciehowski earned a berth to the 3A girls state tennis tournament next week after finishing fifth in the district tournament. The top five from districts moved forward to state.

Wojciehowski started the tournament as the No. 4 seed from Metro, beating Liberty's Jenny Adams in the first round. She then lost to Barbara Ann Carey, eventual third place finisher, in the second round.

During the second day of the tournament Wojciehowski beat Genevive Payzer, also from Lakeside, 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the final consolation match. She beat Mercer Island's Melanie Lee 6-2, 6-3 to take fifth.

The girls state tournament will take place May 25 and May 26 in Kennewick.
