Mercer Island swimmer heads to Olympic trials

Mercer Island native Ethan Hallowell is going to Omaha, Neb. this week to participate in the U.S. Olympic Swimming trials.

Hallowell, who just finished his freshman year at Stanford University, will be swimming the 50 freestyle event at the trials. At the end of his first season swimming for the Cardinal, he was ranked fourth in the event with a 19.82 time. Hallowell is ranked 56th in country.

The men's 50 meter freestyle race is scheduled for Saturday, June 30. The swimming trials will be broadcast online and the 50 freestyle semifinal race will be available on NBCSN with the finals on NBC Saturday night.
