Mercer Island Little League advances to the semifinals

The Mercer Island Little League team beat Wyoming 12-3 in the Islanders final game of pool play on Tuesday morning.
The team from Washington started the game up 3-1 at the end of the first inning, before adding two in the second. Wyoming held off Mercer Island in the third, while adding a run of their own for a 5-3 game going into the fourth inning. It didn’t take long into the bottom of the fourth inning before Mercer Island posted two more runs, followed by five in the bottom of the fifth to take the win.
Mercer Island finished pool play with a 4-0 record, the only team to remain undefeated in the tournament. The win earns the team the top seed in the semifinals, playing the No. 4 seed on Thursday evening. The game is scheduled to be play at 8 p.m. and will be shown on ESPN2.
The winners of Thursday’s two semifinal games will play for the championships on Saturday, Aug. 11 at 1 p.m. in a game to be shown on ESPN. The winner will also punch their ticket to the Little League World Series event, held Aug. 16 through Aug. 26 in Williamsport, Penn.
