Mercer Island earns first win of season | Girls prep soccer

The Mercer Island girls soccer team earned it’s first win of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 4 in a non-conference game against 4A Roosevelt.

The Islanders won 2-1.

Roosevelt hit the mark first, with a goal by Agueda Dudle-Berios in the 15th minute. It wasn’t until the end of the first half the Islanders were able to respond, tying to game with a Marissa Hammerstrom goal, assisted by senior Laura Harrison.

Mercer Island took control of the game after a hard fought second half with a goal in the 62nd minute by Emily Lightfoot, assisted by Kianna Chang.

The Islanders will host Newport on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in another non-conference match.
